Age of Empires III - WarChiefs Previews

A host of new WarChiefs preivews are now available, finally revealing the third mystery civilization for our upcoming Age of Empires III expansion pack, the Aztecs!

IGN WarChiefs Preview: "Where the Sioux have excellent types of cavalry, the Aztecs rely exclusively on infantry troops. Though slow to start, they can eventually develop into a very powerful force."

GameSpy Preview: "The Iroquois WarChief offers a health bonus, the cavalry-focused Sioux get speed and Aztec warriors near their WarChief get bonus experience for everyone they kill."

Gaming Nexus: "The Firepit can give bonuses to unit training rates, experience gathering rates, and even combat bonuses. I haven't had much of a chance to see exactly how much the Firepit can turn the tide of battle, but it certainly adds another dimension."

Action Trip:"Finally, the Aztecs wield a powerful all-infantry army that is respectable in the early stages of the fight, but has tremendous potential in terms of tech tree advancements later on in the game."

The admin of Addictinggames247 has been testing this job for about a year in order to make sure that this is a great job! Not surprisingly, game testing is now his only job. Here is what he says about: “I can reassure that this company can give us what they claim that they give. This is my only job and I make about 5500 $ per month. They were honest and always send me the check in time. I guarantee for the prospects and quality of this job. I think that it will be a great chance for the members of our site. What seems strange is that they claim that if you are not satisfied, they can give your registration cost back (!!). I can’t imagine why someone wouldn’t be satisfied with such a bargain”.

Our member Comfis has been working for Game Tester Guide for 2 months. He says: “I feel just like in heaven. I am totally excited. In the beginning they were paying me 9 $ per hour just to play and test brand new games. Now, after two months, due to my increased experience, the company gives me 15 $ per hour and they claim that they can pay about 80 $!! Besides, I’m the first to play new, non released games created from the most important gaming companies!! Video games are my passion, and I have always dreamed of making a living doing it. I just can't believe that it came true”.

Ventrilo and Teamspeak riding coattails

Most of us have used one of these VoiP systems sometime in our gaming lives. Ventrilo seems to be winning out with many

gamers, partly due to the abundance of quality Ventrilo server hosting companies.

With World of Warcraft reaching a bazillion gamers and having no built in

communication system, these software companies contribute to the popularity of software like Ventrilo and the less popular

Teamspeak.

Age of Empires III Mods and Hacks

It has come to our attention that a popular UI mod enables users to zoom out further than the game usually allows. This gives the player with the mod an unfair advantage, and we consider this cheating when used in multiplayer games. If you are using a mod that has this functionality, do not make use of it in multiplayer games, or uninstall the mod.

We are also looking into other hacks at this time, and would like to remind players that we have a zero tolerance policy towards cheating and the use of hacks.

Age of Empires The Warchiefs

The other real-time strategy franchises have their fans around the office but, for me, the Age of Empires series is at the top of the RTS pyramid. It's not that I have anything against Command & Conquer or Warcraft; they're both awesome series. For my money though, nobody provides more pure RTS joy than the gang at Ensemble. And when it comes to great expansion packs, Ensemble really knows how to deliver.

Last week Ensemble announced the first expansion to their wildly popular real-time strategy game. Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs, due out this fall, will focus on three new Native American civilizations and add a brand new campaign. Loads of new gameplay elements will be added as well.

To find out more about the expansion, we decided to check in with the game's lead designer, Sandy Peterson.

IGNPC: We're pretty excited to hear about this new expansion. What's the basic premise of The WarChiefs ?

Sandy Peterson: Well, we are creating an expansion pack that will live up to the high standards we have at Ensemble Studios. The overall theme is the Native Americans, and the three new civs are all native, but there is new content for the old civs too.

IGNPC: Why did you decide to focus on Native Americans for this expansion? Some people have indicated that focusing on Native Americans has required a little sensitivity on your part. Can you elaborate?

Sandy Peterson: Early on we considered adding other civilizations but felt they wouldn't play as different as what we believe we can do with the Native Americans. We also felt there were good stories from the Native American point-of-view that we wanted to tell and hadn't seen in a previous game. In light of the sensitivity, Ensemble has always tried to portray the "underdogs." For instance, in Age 2 we presented the Crusades from Saladin's point of view. In effect we are now giving the native nations full control of history. So in some ways we're empowering them.

Age of Empires III The Warchiefs

IGNPC: There will be three new civilizations included in the game but so far you've only announced the Iroquois Confederacy. What about them made them a good choice for the game? How do they play differently than the European powers?

Sandy Peterson: The Iroquois controlled a large confederation that sprawled over a wide area. They actually expanded their territory and became more powerful after contact with the Europeans, making major conquests among other tribes. They enthusiastically adopted European technology and their military is the most "European-like" of our three native nations. So they are an interesting combination of a fairly contemporary army (for the 1700s) backed up by a native economy and a strong tradition of mysticism.

The Iroquois really focused on their harvest, their domestic food plants, and their agricultural way of life and we've tried to reflect that in their in-game economy.

Age of Empires III Expansion Pack

The incredible momentum behind "Age of Empires III" continues as Microsoft Game Studios and Ensemble Studios announced their plans for delivering an expansion pack to gamers in 2006.

The new expansion pack will build off of the exciting real-time-strategy gameplay of "Age of Empires III," providing players with the ability to lead one of three proud Native American civilizations, including the Iroquois Confederation, to expand their empire and fight for control of the Americas.

The expansion pack, which is due on store shelves in the Fall of 2006, will provide new ways to play and win, introducing new gameplay elements and content including new civilizations, a new single player campaign, Home City enhancements and additional maps and units. Additional content will be added to all existing European civilizations as well.
